We reached out for some inspirational stories and heard some great ones!

MEET RON

“I lived in MB from 1978 to 1983 and always enjoyed  going to the Old Hometown Fair so, in 1983, I decided to run the 10k Run, also.  However, a small conflict appeared: my upcoming wedding and the run were on the same day!  Happily, there was a few hour difference between the two events and the problem was solved.   On October 1, at 7:30, I ran the race in about 45 minutes.  Four hours later, I made it, on time, to Bel Air and got married (my wife, Becky, thought I was crazy).

This year marks our 35th Wedding Anniversary and my third running of the race.  Becky, and my younger daughter, Tiffany, will be cheering me on.  My older daughter, Suzanne, will be running the race with me!   I ran the 1984 race with my high school friend, Cameron Draine and we are still best friends—he got married a week after I did.  My 1983 finisher’s shirt has worn out but I will wear the purple 1984 finisher’s visor for this year’s race!”

MEET JODIE

“I am turning 40 this October and I love to run.  Early this year, I started the search for an October race to help me celebrate the big 4-0.  And, I found the perfect fit.  Two days before I was born, the Manhattan Beach 10k had its inaugural race.  Isn't that fabulous?  I knew I had to run in THIS race!

I convinced 9 friends to sign up and run with me.  Most of us live in Atascadero, CA but my Mom is coming from Canada and another friend from Arizona.  It will be the first time any of us have run this race.  We look forward to running with you all.”
