MB10k Spotlight: Sean Ryan +Energy Physical Therapy & Sports Performance

MB10k Sponsor Spotlight

Sean Ryan of Postive Energy Physical Therapy & Sports Performance has been a local longtime sponsor and runner of the Manhattan Beach 10k! We asked him about his love of fitness and the importance of being fit as a family. He is also an excellent resource if there is something preventing you from doing the race this year. There is plenty of time to have an assessment by Sean, or his excellent team, to get you on track with your training to walk or run the October 7 Manhattan Beach 10k! Read on to see what Sean has to say.

Staying Relevant

A few weeks back my mom drove by the house while I was working out in the garage and asked me what I was doing?  I replied half joking that I was “trying to stay relevant”.  Since that reply, I’ve shared the story many times with my adult clients, each of them nodding in agreement of how true those words can be.

I am now 48 years old and challenged with the task of keeping up with my 12 and 10 year old boys, while bracing for my 4 year old daughter’s physical demands as she ages up.  Last week alone, we played baseball, rode dirt bikes, swam, ran, rode scooters, and played golf.  None of it I am good at, but I sure try hard and most importantly I love having this time with my wife and 3 kids.

I was raised with the belief that movement and activity were normal parts of our daily lives.  Through the choices my wife and I make, our kids are being exposed to similar values, and I hope this in turn fosters a passion for activity and sports participation.

As I move through my circle of life, I am doing my best to preserve my physical capacity, thereby staying relevant for activity with kids, my adult kids some day, and their grandchildren way down the road.  While on this journey and while helping others recover or maintain physical health, I have also come to realize that the mind and body may age at different rates.  Your mind may still feel young and yet your body ages no matter what the mind wants.  This tug of war between your mind and body is real and if your body has not been told by your mind it may not be able do what it used to do, be aware, it is coming.

With my passion for sports participation, coupled with my journey to stay relevant, I plan to participate in the MB10k on October 7th.  I will not run as fast nor train as much as I used to, but I will be along for the ride with my friends and family the whole way.

If your body is keeping you from walking or running in this year’s 10K and you’d like to invest in your physical health the Team at Positive Energy may be able to help you with direction and getting starting.

We are here for you.
