Santhosh K's Story
“We moved here 3 years back, and ever since I've run the MB10k. And this is the ONLY 10k i'm running…More than my neighborhood race, it's one of the best organized races I've seen across SoCal. Not to mention the effort level with the climb we have from Aviation-Marine towards the Strand. I value the unique t-shirt finishers get! This is my 4th year and unfortunately it's gonna be a virtual one. But i'm very happy to race again, for the neighborhood and wishing all the best to the organizers.”

Danika & Michael Allmon
My daughter, Danika, began running at about age 5 (with her first MB 10k). From there to becoming an “extreme” athlete - running, swimming, biking, etc for hours at a time (running or biking from MB past downtown LA at times)
Her first MB10k was with me and a friend of mine. We would “run the shade” and “walk the sun” to finish that distance. As we passed crowds, we would lift her by her arms and she would “run in the air”. At about age 12 or so she asked to run the track with me (I was a sprinter in high school so I thought that this would be a fun project where I could “let her win”) The first lap out she took off and I had no chance of even coming close to catching her. So, she then said “Let’s do that again Dad, and this time you try!” As a Mira Costa freshman she got close to an overall school record as a sprinter, I didn’t feel so bad then!
Danika was one of the only women to ever be “shirted” with the Manhattan Beach “Wall-nuts” club shirt as Danika joined us on several of our runs.
Very sadly, we lost Danika recently to what her cardiologist called a “storm of illnesses & conditions”.
I miss and love you continuously, Danika!

This caterpillar is so awesome! Love how the Hometown Fair banner is in the background. Anyone know what year this is?

Lexi's Story
I moved to LA 3 years ago, and ever since - the MB10k has been a tradition. It is, in essence, what makes California feel like home to me. Before moving, I was a part of a running club on Cape Cod, and knew having a goal to look forward to would help motivate me while navigating the emotions and stress that nobody talks about after you move across country.
Toeing my first starting line at the MB10k had a different vibe than any other race - I didn’t really know anyone, but smiles were generated - you can just feel the community’s energy. It is something special.
Now, three years later, I feel as though I’ve melted into the community and look forward to the MB10k as a benchmark for life in LA and how much I’ve grown throughout the years. Even though this year will look a little different, I’m stoked to be able to share this moment with my family. From Cape Cod to the Florida Keys to right here in the South Bay - we’re all connected and ready to run our own race!

Rebecca H.'s Story
The MB10k has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember! My mom has been a member of the Race Committee for many years, and after graduating high school my brother and I joined as well. Both of us received college scholarships from the MB10k and we love having the opportunity to give back to the organization in this way.
I look forward to the MB10k every year - it is truly my favorite weekend! I know that no matter how crazy life gets, my family and high school friend group will always come to MB for Hometown weekend. It's kind of like our version of a family reunion! For me, it is never really about the running (likely the reason that I still can't seem to break an hour...), but instead having the ability to spend time with family and friends in a place we all love and cherish!
Although I am sad that I won't be with my family and friends in person this year, I am excited to see the creative ways that everyone chooses to run their own race no matter where they are. I for one will be chugging along out here in Colorado at 7,000ft, and almost certainly taking over an hour to finish per usual!
